Wrong exhaust for air intake??? Newbie needs advice....

Post by ELZGPX »

Hi guys, I just bought my first FTO (black '95 GPX) and I love it to bits!! my only concern is the sound of the exhaust, before u get to 2,500 revs and over 3,000 the exhaust sounds awesome, but inbetween and going up hills it drones to the max and sounds aweful, is this because the exhaust is 2 big for the air intake???? I'm still learning about this stuff so please excuse my stupid questions....!!!

The exhaust is a 5zigen 90mm diameter. :? It's just way too loud at times. HELP.....??? :?:

might just drone...some do it.

If your really worried but a big oval muffler on it that will make it quiet.

Maybe the tip is 3.5 not the whole thing?

Yeh, sorry bout that - yes the tip is 3.5, not the whole thing... :?

I'm certainly not shy of dropping it down & giving it a bit, it only does it when you accelerate more than average, if I drive it like 'Miss Daisy' it only does it up hills, but I don't want to thrash it everywhere. I might take it to RPW and get them to come for a drive....

Thanks guys.

hey black fto are sick! ive got one too! 96 GPX! I asked you about your car because just the other day i saw a nice lady who had just got her's as well and i told her to come signup to Ftoaustralia.com coz there aren't that many WA people here and so it would be good to see a few more faces!

On the good side, you might end up having a another female fto owner mate! Where abouts do you drive around? Iam usually around willetton, curtin, murdoch, and whereever really!

Two birds... one stone...

Get a performance muffler and get rid of the noise...

just get a 2.5" Mandrel Bent pipe off a set of RPW extractors, with a highflow Cat (good quality) out a good quality muffler...

When you say Droning is it just an annoying noise or sound like its "farting"...

droning could be helped by sound deadening your boot and other panels...

farting is usually from a thin muffler (low quality)

Just take it to a good muffler shop and tell them what yo want
