Reconditioned steering rack thanks to Mr. Racks.

Timing belt, reconditioned fuel injectors, oil filter and fuel filter.

$320 and it came with a 3 year warranty.

That price didn't include removal / fitting but they do provide that as a service if you require it.

They showed me their test bed, quite impressive. They test each rack to withstand 1000psi!

yep you would be right there. Did they say that they would put after market ones in or just do a freshen up on them (new rings.......)?
it looks from your pics that they just chucked them back in. They could have steam cleaned them first.

They said that they would replace the pistons (not necessarily with aftermarket ones). In heinsight, I should have asked for the old ones back to ensure they used a different set.

It cost $4500 to get it reconditioned including having the 6 fuel injectors done, engine balancing, up-ing the compression and it includes a 3 year, 100,000km warranty. It also included pick up and delivery of my engine from my garage.

The price did not include a new oil pump (old one was within spec so it was reused), water pump or idlers / tensioners, which I will be fitting new ones of.

This is more than they initially quoted me by about $500 but I didn't want to argue with them and risk them cutting corners. The work was done at ARA Engine Reconditioning in Guildford.

Ok cheers for that. Thinking of getting my MIVEC motor done rather than buying a new one. So far done 260,xxx km and pretty slugging. Why did you need new pistons?

I don't know if I needed new pistons, but it is one of the items I was charged for. I just want to make sure that if I pay for it, I get it.

Ok right! I might give em a call and ask for a quote and inquire whether the pistons requires to be changed :-)

being a Cylinder Head Machinist id say the bore's on the block and pistons were still with in spec so they would have given the block a light hone and fitted new rings if there were new pistons you would be able to tell and most of the time they use aftermarket replacement pistons but in this case it looks like factory pistons and thay look dirty :?

if this was me handing over that much cash id be asking questions

I would love to, but without anything concrete I don't want to start accusing them of anything.

Thanks!

Well, I was looking at getting a second hand BMW 135i, but they start at around the 50k mark. From there it wasn't a hard sell to spend a 10th of that on fixing my car.

If all goes well, the motor goes in next weekend.
