Just found out, they're actually 390cc

Also just found out they can be honed out to 550cc for approx $65 a pop.

Also found out my rear turbo has blown a seal & that the bearing on my main shaft in the gearbox are about to go :x

*Sigh*

Ah well, I'll make it to Auto Salon, then pull it to pieces again after

LOL! No.

Got a second hand turbo spare, gonna take it down & get GCG to check it out, if it's ok, I'll bolt her right on.
I've had to pull all the turbo piping out & clean it. When it blew, it spat a f**king ton of oil all through the plumbing & intercooler.
Also found a leak from the rear manifold gasket, so will have to replace that too. Will also get GCG to look at coring out the injectors. I just dont have a spare $1000 at the moment.

Finally got the gearbox out yesterday arvo. I may as well have pulled the whole friggen engine out. Between the rear turbo & the box it took almost 5 hours. I can drop the whole motor out in 3!

You're in luck Val, the place I took them too yesterday to be bored out, we're asking $100 a pop
I'm going to be buying a brand new set from here: http://www.fuelinjectorclinic.com/mitsubishi/index.html - only $430 US... which is about $430 Aus

I took some comparison pics for you, they'll fit directly in. The only difference is the 390cc units are margianlly longer with the shroud around the nozzle.
Doesn't matter as both fuel rails I've compared are identical & both are high impedance. You'll be going from CDH166 to CDH390.

The 390s are now out of my car if you want them, make me an offer!

Note the difference in jet size here. FTO on left, Legnum on right.

Here you can see the slight difference in length.

Possibly...

Mine would blow a huge plume of smoke every 10 minutes at idle... then it would go away for another 10 minutes... then plume... as each wad of oil made its way into the intake.

Gearbox issue turns out to be just a flogged out thrust bearing as opposed to shot main shaft bearings

Funnily enough, that bearing went in new (or at least I was told it was new :x ) when the new clutch & box went in. As the thrust bearing condition is a good indicator as to the condition of your clutch. In my case, the clutch is almost brand new still :| So it's going back in & this time I'll try & source a heavier duty version of the thrust bearing.

Important lesson learnt today :!:

I was rotating the motor by hand with a socket on the cam gears, and was too lazy to remove the spark plugs.
End result, the cam gear skipped a couple of teeth on the belt

So... rolled the motor back to TDC, removed all rocker arms from the offending cam, gathered what was of left of the slack
in the belt around the offending cog, removed the cam gear whilst holding the belt on tight to the other gears, rotated the
cam, slipped cam gear back in under the belt - tightened bolt into cam gear. Fixed :D

I did, will get back to you shortly.

Got the box back on yesterday. Why is that, you can juggle the bastard around for 45 mins trying to get it
to line up & go back in, then walk away for a 10 minute breather & have a beer, then first shot back at it again
and *clomp!* she goes straight in :?:

A delicate balance of jackery..

Image

Here's another 6A13 / 6A12 comparison too, difference between lower sections of the intake manifolds.
6A13 one is signifigantly larger both in port size & in overall size. Stud patterns are an inch apart on both
the head mating faces & the top intake section, so no swapping of 6A13 intakes onto 6A12's unfortunately.
Needs the heads to go with.

Got the new bigger injectors ordered today :)

Found a place in the US that did me a full set for $465 plus postage.

They are almost the same as the top ones listed on this page:
http://www.fuelinjectorclinic.com/injec ... t-vr4.html

The actual ones Im getting aren't listed on the website, but the part number is IS186-0525H
Funnily enough they suit the Nissan 350Z, the w/VQ35DE engine.

Really helpful guy over there that helped size them up, Jens von Holten
