Front Wheel Bearings

Hey guys,

Has anyone here recently replaced a front whel bearing with a generic bearing? as opposed to a Kazillion dollar Mitsubishi supplied bearing - which is a generic bloody bearing anyway?

It would appear one of mine is on the verge of collapse & am hoping to get a part number so I can head down to CBC bearings this arvo & match up a set.

lol, had a feeling I'd be answering my own question.

Bearings are Koyo Brand
Part no# DAC4080M1CS68 (40*80*34/36mm) x 2

Seals are a NAK brand
Inner Part no# NAK9092 (54*82*8/11mm) TBY9 x 2
Outer Part no# P0009 (57*72*8/11mm) TBY x 2

Also known as a complete front wheel kit for a late model Magna.

Total cost $150 from North Shore Bearings at Hornsby.

Ouch, I remember Garth aka RallyMad being stung for around $250 for just one wheel bearing when he needed a replacement last year...

Rears are different. They are integrated into the hub & you can't just replace the bearing, you need to replace the whole hub.

Well you can take that job & jam it up your @##%!

What a #$%&!

I wouldn't recommend anyone DIY that. Took me 5 hours just to do one, including such fun things as machining up a peice of steel to drift the bearing shell out, heating up the hub with the oxy cause the bearing shell wont bash out & now having to replace just about every ball joint that has a rubber boot because I split them all bashing them out with the ball joint splitter.

Soon find out. Im taking the other one down to the workshop tomorrow to do. Especially now that I have a lump of steel that fits into the centre of the shell.

I just think mine were especially rooted. There was no grease left in it whatsoever, so it would have getting almightily hot. Welded itself in.

Hey Ben, just remember to put high temp grease in, not the general purpose sh*t recommended in the manual

Agree it is a bitch of a job but doable with a little patience, a little innovation, and an old man who's a mechanic lol

That's cheap for the bearings too, I bought mine from Camskill approx $90 plus freight, but best I could price up in Sydney was $78 a side, didn't include the snap ring though...

Yep, loaded 'em up with high temp

That snap ring is a bigger a pain in the ass than the bearing itself!

You're supposed to have the Mitsubishi tool to get it out, so instead I just drilled two 3mm holes, one in each side of the heads & just used regular circlip plyers after that..... and being spring steel, I went through a few drill bits too!

well the sound that I have been suspecting to be noisy tyres for the past year or so turned out to not be tyre noise. Ever since I changed back to street tyres from my semi slicks, the noise didnt go away. When I went to get my pink slip done, the mechanic wouldnt do it after he took my car for a drive.

Noisy wheel bearings (rears) he said he could ovelook but my front wheel setup is causing massive rubbage. Ive had it like that for years and I havent busted a tyre yet so I didnt see the problem. Sure it rubs but not much..Maybe he got psyched out by my loud diff.. anywho once he said the noisy wheel bearings it clicked. Should have known it all along. Mine are really noisy especially at highway speeds, you have to yell to talk hehehe

Does anyone know if these bearings are good value??
